When Suboxone is prescribed to patients who agree to a recovery model of treatment as opposed to just swearing off other opioids – it is a medication of extraordinary value. It is not even close to methadone in its downside potential.
The NY Times article on 11/15 has as many correct facts as it has misimpressions. When patients are engaged in frequent contact with their Suboxone provider, agree to frequent urine drug screens and have access to counseling as needed- they do very well.
